Summer is the Perfect Time to Volunteer

Summer is the Perfect Time to Volunteer

Now that you may be settled at your Permanent Change of Station, the kids are in summer activities, and the days are much longer, it may be a good time to dive into volunteering. July is a great time of year to volunteer. MCCS seeks volunteers for the summer months for programs such as Youth Sports and LINKS, as well as community opportunities such as food banks and community festivals.

There are some benefits of including volunteer time in your summer schedule.

Make new friends – Are you new to your installation? Have you been at your installation for a while, but are having trouble meeting new friends? Volunteering is a great way to meet new people. Volunteering will get you active and if you share your desire to meet other people with your installation volunteer coordinator, they can provide you with volunteer opportunities that will include working with groups of people. It is a fantastic way to meet potential friends and get to know the people aboard your installation and in the surrounding community.

Find out what's going on in your community – Do you feel like you always hear about the fun summer events happening in your community after they’ve happened? Volunteering is a great way to be in the know about upcoming community events. Planning for installation and community events begin weeks, sometimes months, ahead of the actual event. Many of these events are looking for people to help. Talk with your Volunteer Coordinator to find out what’s happening near you and what you can do to support a community event.

Help out the kids in your community – Do you enjoy making a difference in the life of a child? Volunteer! Your installation Youth Sports Program is often in need of coaches and volunteers to make their sporting events a success. Volunteering to participate not only gives you the benefit of taking part, but also ensures that the families aboard your installation have an outstanding sports program. Volunteers really make a difference in the opportunities available for kids.

There are many great reasons to volunteer at your installation this summer. It benefits you, your installation, and your community. Reach out to your installation Volunteer Coordinator for summer opportunities today at https://usmc-mccs.org/services/activities/volunteering/.
