National Recovery Month is a time to recognize the courage, resilience, and strength of those navigating mental health and substance use challenges. For Marines and their families, recovery is often shaped by the unique demands of military life, including deployments, operational stress, relocations, transitions, and time away from loved ones.

This year's theme, "The Power of Being Seen, Heard, and Supported," highlights the role connection plays in recovery and reminds us that no one should face challenges alone.

Recovery is not a one-size-fits-all journey. Through the four pillars of Marine Corps Total Fitness (MCTF), Marines and families can build the skills, relationships, and habits that support long-term well-being and readiness.

Mental Fitness

Feeling supported can make it easier to seek help, build healthy coping skills, and address challenges before they grow.

Action Tip: Reach out early when concerns arise. Resources such as chaplains, counselors, medical providers, and Military OneSource are available to provide support and guidance.

Social Fitness

Strong relationships help reduce isolation, encourage recovery, and strengthen resilience.

Action Tip: Stay connected with fellow Marines, friends, and family members. Participate in unit activities, mentorship opportunities, peer support programs, and authorized volunteer opportunities, including Single Marine Program events, to build meaningful connections and strengthen your sense of belonging.

Physical Fitness

Healthy routines support both recovery and overall readiness.

Action Tip: Prioritize quality sleep, maintain healthy nutrition and hydration habits, and engage in regular physical activity to support your physical and emotional well-being.

Spiritual Fitness

Recovery often includes finding purpose, meaning, and hope during difficult times.

Recovery Is a Team Effort

National Recovery Month serves as a reminder that recovery is possible and support is available. By strengthening mental, social, physical, and spiritual fitness, Marines and their families can build resilience, improve well-being, and maintain a healthy, mission-ready lifestyle.

You are never alone. Help is always available.
