Preparing Marines for Life After Service

Preparing Marines for Life After Service

April marks National Internship Awareness Monththe perfect time for Marines to plan their next chapter. The Marine Corps offers a powerful combination to build a clear and confident pathway from military service to a civilian career: the Transition Readiness Program (TRP) and the SkillBridge Program

How the Transition Readiness Program Supports Your Future

Your transition starts with a solid plan. The TRP is your strategic planning phase, providing the education and tools to prepare you for the civilian workforce. TRP helps you:

  • Translate your military experience into a powerful résumé.
  • Develop effective job search and interview skills.
  • Identify career interests and goals through personalized counseling.
  • Connect with veteran-friendly employers and professional networks.

By fully engaging with TRP, Marines can gain clarity on career direction and identify any additional skills or experience needed to succeed after separation.

Gain Work Experience with SkillBridge

SkillBridge allows eligible service members to spend up to the last 180 days of active duty gaining hands-on experience with an approved civilian employer through an internship, apprenticeship, or training program. During participation, Marines remain on active-duty orders and continue to receive military pay and benefits.

SkillBridge provides a low-risk opportunity to:

  • Explore a new career field

  • Build professional networks

  • Gain civilian work experience

  • Evaluate potential career paths before transitioning out of active duty

A Great Combination

Using TRP to prepare gives you a competitive edge for a high-value SkillBridge placement. Together, they create a low-risk pathway to your post-military career.
